Ageing wine cabinets
There are wine cabinets available that are designed to maintain the ideal storage environment of a traditional wine cellar for long term preservation or ageing of wines. The specification necessary for storage include a charcoal filter, optimal temperature management, humidity between 50-80%, no vibrations, and their doors are either solid or completely UV resistant.
Can I use more than one temperature zone in an ageing wine cabinet?
Yes, we offer wine cabinets that uses polyvalent technology which means it can supply 3 different temperature zones within the cabinet – the top of the cabinet will be much warmer than the bottom. Or alternatively, there are wine cabinets that offer two or more independent temperature zones for ageing and storage of multiple different types of wines.
With a capacity of as little as 80 Bordeaux bottles to over 300 bottles, means you can find the most compatible model for the space and amount of wine you have or plan on collecting, perfect for your needs. Most wine cabinets offer different arrangement solutions, bottles are usually stacked on adjustable shelves but you can customize the layout by, for example, purchasing additional display shelves or by taking a shelf out to have the bottles stand upright however, this would reduce its maximum bottle capacity. We also stock a host of ageing cabinets which have telescopic rails for those who like to have bottles stored just like a wine cellar.
Can I put my wine cabinet in a garage or storeroom?
Storage and ageing conditions in a wine cellar need to be recreated in a wine cabinet so that you can be assured to store your finest bottles for many years to come. So, having a winter system in a wine cabinet means that you can install these models in any warm or cold environment (ambient temperature of 0°C – 38°C), such as a garage or living space because it can adapt to the ambient temperature very well, keeping a constant temperature inside the cellar. The winter system effectively consists of an internal heater to raise the internal temperature of the wine cabinet and also these wine coolers will be packed full of additional insulation.
Most ageing wine cabinets often come with a security lock and audible alarms as you may not want unauthorized access to your precious collection or if the door was left open which will alter the storage condition of the cabinet. More importantly, the compressor is secured with an anti-vibration system to protect your wine further as vibration can be a key factor in development of wine.
If energy saving is essential for your lifestyle then wine cabinets with solid doors are often energy rated A or A+, such as our Avintage and La Sommeliere models. Do consider that wine cabinet ratings are rated differently compared to standard household fridges, for example, an A energy household fridge is the equivalent to a D energy rating wine cabinet so wine cabinets use an awful lots less electricity than a standard fridge. Higher energy ratings usually means that the wine cooler is constructed from much more robust components which aren’t always the most energy efficient.
