Liebherr Fridge Temperature Control

Liebherr is known for producing premium fridges and wine coolers designed with German engineering and high-quality materials.

Their models are popular across Europe for their energy efficiency, durability, and sleek design. Many owners also choose Liebherr for their advanced cooling technology – but like all appliances, even the best fridges can develop issues over time….

In this blog, we explore how Liebherr fridge temperature control works, how to tell if the temperature control is broken, and our top troubleshooting tips for fixing Liebherr temperature control.

How Liebherr Temperature Control Works

Liebherr fridges feature advanced cooling technology which ensures precise and consistent temperatures. The temperature control system typically includes three key components:

  1. Thermostat or Sensors – Most use electronic sensors to monitor the temperature, but older models may use a mechanical thermostat.

  2. Control Panel – Most Liebherr models have a digital control panel that enables you to choose your desired temperature. The panel sends signals to the compressor and fans to adjust cooling as needed.

  3. Compressor and Cooling Fans – When the thermostat or sensors detect the temperature is too high, the compressor switches on and circulates refrigerant to cool the fridge. Internal fans then distribute the cold air evenly.

How to Tell if the Temperature Control Isn’t Working

If your Liebherr fridge isn’t maintaining the right temperature, you may notice one or more of these signs:

  • Food spoiling faster than usual
  • Ice building up inside the fridge or freezer
  • Drinks not cooling properly
  • Wine not cooling properly (for wine fridges)
  • Error codes or flashing lights on the display
  • The fridge motor running constantly or not at all

If you’re noticing these issues, the temperature control system could be the problem. The good news is that it can usually be fixed.

How to Fix Temperature Control on a Liebherr Fridge

If your Liebherr fridge isn’t maintaining the correct temperature, the issue could be as simple as an incorrect setting… or as complicated as a faulty thermostat.

Here are the main steps you can take to fix temperature control problems:

1 - Check the Settings

  • Liebherr recommends +4°C for the fridge and –18°C for the freezer – and between +10°C and +12°C for wine fridges
  • If the control panel has been accidentally changed, your fridge might be running too warm or too cold
  • Adjust the settings, then give the refrigerator or wine fridge at least 24 hours to stabilise

2 - Reset the Fridge

  • The control system can sometimes glitch
  • Try turning it on and off again at the mains – wait around 5 minutes, and plug it back in
  • This reset could clear any minor electronic faults affecting temperature regulation

3 - Check the Vents

  • Liebherr fridges require good airflow to maintain a consistent temperature
  • Check that there is nothing blocking the vents (whether that be food or bottles)
  • Leave enough space around the items in your Liebherr fridge for the air to circulate freely

4 - Clean the Condenser Coils

  • Dusty or dirty condenser coils can make the fridge work harder – which can affect cooling
  • Find the coils (usually at the back or bottom of the fridge)
  • Use a vacuum or soft brush to gently clean away dust and debris every 6 to 12 months

5 - Check the Door Seals

  • Damaged or loose seals can allow warm air to enter, which can cause the fridge to overcompensate
  • Run your hand around the door edges to feel for gaps - if you spot cracks or the door doesn’t close tightly, the gasket may need replacing

6 - Test the Thermostat

  • If the fridge still isn’t cooling properly, it could be due to a faulty thermostat
  • A broken thermostat won’t send the right signals to regulate the compressor
  • You may need a technician to test and, if necessary, replace the part

Note – If you’re not comfortable handling electrical parts, it’s best to call a qualified Liebherr service technician.

Other Common Issues with Liebherr Fridges

Besides temperature control problems, Liebherr owners may also encounter:

  1. Flashing fridge light – What it means & how to fix
  2. Fridge door not closing properly – Easy fixes here
  3. Beeping alerts – Why is my Liebherr wine fridge beeping?
  4. Leaking water – Find out the causes
  5. Cooling issues – Why is my Liebherr wine fridge not cooling?

These problems are often minor and can be resolved without replacing the fridge. If your fridge is not turning on at all, you may need to take some extra steps. We cover this in our guide: ‘Why is My Wine Frige Not Turning On’.

Is Liebherr Trustworthy?
