Have you ever come to crack open a cold bottle of beer just to realise that your beer isn't cold, but lukewarm? You then look in your beer fridge and find that all your beer is lukewarm… and that your fridge hasn't been cooling properly!
There are many reasons why your beer fridge may not be cooling, some a lot more fixable than others. Let's take a look.
1 - Damaged Door Gasket
The main purpose of a door gasket is to tightly seal the refrigerator door. Over time, the seal may weaken, often due to dirt and grime clogging in the seal. To prevent the gasket from weakening, we suggest that you regularly clean it to rid of the chance of any dirt building up.
If the door gasket is damaged, it can affect the way that the door closes. If the door isn't closed properly, it can allow for warm air from the outside to seep inside.
How to Fix The Problem
If your gasket is already damaged and is affecting the way that your fridge door closes and the temperature inside of your fridge, we recommend that you replace the gasket.
You can find an appropriate gasket for your fridge by searching online '(the make and model of your fridge) replacement gasket' or you can call up your manufacturer so that they can guide you in the right direction.
2 - Blocked Vents
Cold air needs to be able to circulate freely throughout your fridge to maintain the desired temperature. It can’t do this if the vents inside your fridge are blocked!
How to Fix The Problem
To fix this problem, you should check that nothing is blocking the vents. Sometimes beer bottles can shift, applying pressure and blocking the vents.
3 - Dirty Condenser Coils
The purpose of the condenser coils is to cool refrigerant, the chemical needed to provide cold air inside of your fridge. Over time, dirt and dust can build up in your condenser coils leading to poor temperature control inside your fridge. If your coils can't cool the refrigerant, it can result in warmer temperatures.
How to Fix The Problem
To prevent potential issues, we recommend cleaning your condenser coils every three months to remove dirt buildup. Regular maintenance will help ensure optimal performance and prevent any problems from reoccurring.
4 - Damaged Thermostat
If your beer fridge isn't keeping your beer at the desired temperature, it could be down to a faulty thermostat. The thermostat supplies power to the components that control the fridge temperature. When broken, the inside of your fridge will have a fluctuating temperature.
How to Fix The Problem
To fix this problem, you will need to replace the thermostat to have your fridge back up and running. We recommend that you get in touch with the manufacturer.
5 - Overfilled Fridge
Each fridge has a maximum capacity and if this is exceeded it can cause the fans to work extra hard to keep everything cool which will eventually lead to your fans overheating.
How to Fix The Problem
Check the max capacity of your fridge – this can be found in the user manual. If you have exceeded the capacity, we recommend removing some bottles to get your fridge back to normal.
Still No Luck?
If you have checked over your fridge and still can’t find the problem, we recommend that you get in touch with the manufacturer of your fridge so that a technician can take a look. You should be able to find the number for the manufacturer on a sticker at the back of the fridge.
